East Texas Triathletes Meeting at Lake Tyler West in
Whitehouse, Texas
on August 7, 2010
The meeting was called to
order by President, Gina Bolton.
A brief report was given by
club treasurer, Alan Harris.
Duke Gill passed out a copy of
the minutes from our May quarterly meeting. A motion was made and
seconded that they be approved. The motion carried.
Gina stated that she and club
secretary Duke Gill had discussed the need to increase club dues from $10
per year to $15 per year in order to cover club expenses such as meeting
facility rentals, refreshments and hydration at club clinics, accountant
fees, and USAT insurance. After a brief discussion a motion was made
and seconded that we do this. The motion carried.
Duke Gill gave a report on the
collection of dues for 2011. He stated that after some research we
will be using either Signmeup.com or ImAthlete online services for this.
This move is necessary because it will eliminate tedious roster updates by
our club president and eliminate accounting issues because of mail in
vs online payments to PayPal. With these services a current,
updated roster of paid club members can always be downloaded for the
purpose of sending this to the USAT SMW Clubs Chairman and for the club
points competition. He also mentioned that Kahne Parsons had been
assisting Gina with these reports.
Steve Farris gave a brief
report on the progress of preparations for Rose City Triathlon. He
stated that club member Robert Peltier had given a substantial donation
and was providing the catering and tents at the triathlon. Steve
reported that he is building more bike racks bringing the total for bike
support of 450 participants. There will be a "Packet Stuffing Party"
on September 13.
Tammy Rooney gave a brief
report on her research into youth activities which our club may be
involved. A suggestion was made by Donna Doyle that we add a youth
event at our Rose City Triathlon. A suggestion was made that we
offer a youth camp and look into hosting this at the Camp Tyler location
on Lake Tyler. No motions were made but there was a request for more
discussion at future meetings.
Gina then asked the Nominating
Committee to give a report. Steve Farris suggested that we keep the
club officers "as is" for the coming year with the addition of Tammy
Rooney as Youth Director. After his report he asked if there were
any more nominations for club officers for next year and there were none.
The slate of officers nominated for next year include:
Gina Bolton, President
Steve Farris, Vice President
Duke Gill, Secretary/Webmaster
Alan Harris, Treasurer
Clifford Barnes, Director
William Ritter, Director
Chauncey Deller, Director
These officers will be
presented at the November meeting for a club vote.
The meeting was adjourned.
East Texas Triathletes Meeting at Lake o' the Pines in
Jefferson, Texas
on May 22, 2010
The short meeting was called
to order by President, Gina Bolton.
Duke Gill stated that the
minutes from the previous meeting were posted on the website. A motion
was made and seconded that they be approved. Motion carried.
Duke then gave a brief report
on the progress of Rose City Triathlon preparations.
Gina stated that she had been
having difficulty getting club members to let her know if they were
participating in an event and stressed that in order for us to receive
points she needed us to let her know this information.
Two items were discussed
concerning changes to our club constitution. The first item was a change
allowing our president to serve more than one consecutive term. After a
brief discussion, a motion was made and seconded that we make this
change. The motion carried.
The second item was the
addition of a new position in our club of Youth Director. Duke Gill
stated that USAT and USAT SMW were stressing and encouraging all clubs to
be more involved in providing youth multi-sport activities. Gina
suggested that we add the officer and see what type of activities we could
do in 2011. A motion was made and seconded that we do add the new
officer. The motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned.
East Texas Triathletes Meeting at Bruno’s Pizza in
Tyler, Texas
on February 20, 2010
The meeting was called to
order by Gina Bolton.
Alan Harris gave a treasury
report stating that our current balance was $4, 426.02 with recent
disbursements of $1,084 to pay for club insurance, the club USAT fee, and
Rose City Triathlon business cards. Gina reported that the last day for
purchasing an East Texas Triathletes Tri Top and for ordering a
subscription to Runner Triathlete News was on February 28, 2010. Alan
provided envelopes for club members to pay dues and to order either a tri
top or a magazine.
The minutes from the November
meeting were on the back of the agenda and after a brief discussion, a
motion was made, seconded and passed to accept them as written.
President Bolton then
discussed the need for 10 more volunteers from our club to serve as
flaggers for the Beauty and the Beast Bike Race. She also explained that
because of the support of the Tyler Bicycle Club, Rose City Triathlon
would not have been successful so we owe it to them to be there. Please
e-mail Steve Farris at sffrun@aol.com as soon as possible and let him know
you will help.
Alan Harris then gave a report
on the progress of the Rose City Triathlon planning. He stated that
several changes in the fee structure were made and that we are using a new
sign-up service, imAthlete. Business cards for advertising the RCT were
passed out to members and they were encouraged to get others to
participate. The date for RCT is September 18, 2010.
The next item on the agenda
discussed by Gina was her stating that USAT was now offering $2,000 for
club grants for the 2010 season. She stated that the club had been
successful in receiving the grant in the past and expressed the need for
the grant in order to help pay for electronic chip timing at our event. A
motion was made and seconded to apply for the grant. Gina stated that she
had already downloaded the USAT grant questions and would apply on the
club’s behalf.
Gina then asked Duke Gill to
speak about the possibility of another swim clinic with Bob Wiskera, a
Total Immersion swim coach. Duke stated that Bob charges $75 per person
for the clinics and that a pool rental of $10 per person would need to be
added for a total of $85 per person if we wanted to host a clinic again.
He also stated that Bob would need to have a minimum of 10 participants.
Duke will send an e-mail out soon with more details. If 10 club members
(or non-club members) are interested, then he will organize the clinic.
Gina then mentioned that the
upcoming USAT South Midwest Awards Banquet and Frost yer Fanny Duathlon
was occurring on February 27 & 28. She will be attending and encouraged
others to do so.
Gina then introduced our guest
speaker, David Gersh, of Elite Bicycles. Dave’’s presentation “Mechanical
Drag Reduction for Increased Speed” was excellent with some great ideas on
simple maintenance and equipment which can make for a more efficient
cyclist.
